Transcom Italia launches gamification project to increase service quality and improve user experience

Gamification is the application of game logic and mechanisms to other fields, for the purpose of engaging with people and conveying specific messages to them in an efficient and agreeable way.

In an ongoing quest for innovative tools to improve Customer Experience, Transcom Italia has developed “Transcom Champs”, a Gamification project focused on improving quality, efficiency and performance in all the customer care, technical/commercial assistance, upselling and cross selling activities that Transcom manages for its clients.

Transcom Champs is a browser game designed to train new recruits, test their skills and improve performance through a series of challenges that take the form of timed quizzes. The inclusion of specific gamification components makes this software a real game and not just a questionnaire. It features alliances, challenges, teams, tournaments, trophies and a points system, which engage with personnel on an emotional level, stimulating their competitive spirit and their ambition to achieve and obtain recognition for excellent operating results.

The challenges are based on the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) defined by Transcom clients, as well as in the areas of technical skills, operating procedures and the soft skills typically required in customer care. The tool has proven to be particularly effective at quickly identifying the areas of improvement for each team or individual, so that actions can be implemented quickly in order to close any gaps.

In May, Transcom launched a pilot for front-end personnel working on two important client accounts in the telecommunications and financial services sectors in Italy. Right from the start, all the employees involved showed an incredible level of enthusiasm. Many of them even accessed the web platform from home or by using their mobile devices, so they could repeat the challenge and try to earn their way to the top of the rankings.

Beyond improving operating efficiency, the new Transcom Champs platform improves both workers’ satisfaction and their commitment, which translates into top notch service for users.

The browser game can be fully customized according to specific needs and priorities, making it possible to:

  • Improve performance in terms of effectiveness and quality
  • Increase up- and cross selling volumes
  • Increase the level of specialization and expertise in systems, processes, procedures and communication skills
  • Improve employees’ attitude to the company and their work
  • Increase motivation
  • Increase employees’ loyalty to the company

A cooking course in Transcom Italy inspires teamwork

During the autumn of 2014 Transcom Italy organized a special training course for their top executives and managers. Their task was to:

  • Cook a full meal to share and enjoy together
  • Prepare a rich cocktail buffet for their Business Support Team colleagues and the Regional General Manager Roberto Boggio

The two-day cooking course, “Made in Transcom”, forms part of a wider-ranging training program organized throughout 2014, in order to develop leadership skills and promote effective teamwork among the people in Transcom Italy who are responsible for managing processes and delivering business results.

The Cooking Day had some very specific purposes:

  1. Draw attention to individual as well as the team’s strengths and identify areas for improvement
  2. To develop the fundamental aspects of group work and effective communication
  3. To stimulate attention to details, in order to guarantee service quality
  4. To analyze the level of engagement and approval, in order to improve the well-being of each individual and the team as a whole

The participants were split into three groups, one assigned to making lunch and the other three to prepare the cocktail party. The expertise of the chef and sous chef were recognized immediately and used as key resources in achieving the objective. Although they were divided into groups and had different culinary backgrounds, all course members worked together and shared information both with each other inside the same group and with different groups. No deadline anxiety was felt by the team and a calm and pleasant atmosphere was established right from the outset, encouraged no doubt by the informal setting and the fact that the cooking skills of all course members were at more or less the same level.

A practical session at the end of the training course identified the most important values shared by participants during the two-day event, both at individual and group level (Confidence, Collaboration, Sharing, Passion, Integrity and Respect), and the behaviors that best express these values.

Legendary football player inspires agents in Transcom Norway

A few weeks ago, Transcom Norway had a visit from one of our clients, a leading Nordic TV-distributor. The aim with the visit was to deepen our agents’ knowledge about their products in order to drive sales as well as improve the service we provide for their customers. Our client also had invited a special guest, Erik Thorstvedt – one of Norway’s greatest goal keepers. Listening to Erik, talking about motivation and his vast knowledge about football was a great inspiration for our employees. You could feel the excitement and joy of having this great personality here. It was a day full of motivation and joy for our agents!

Transcom Norway defines their business culture

A Business Culture project is being implemented throughout  Transcom Norway. We would like to take care of the parts of our culture that we think is right, and remove the parts that are wrong. We have to be clear on how we do things and why.

Culture is a key component in business and has an impact on management, decisions and all business functions from accounting to production. Business culture is related to behaviour, ethics, etiquette and more. A business culture will encompass as the organization’s values, visions, working style, beliefs and habits. A positive culture will contribute to a positive working environment. But if you have a negative culture, this will very quickly ruin a good workplace.

At Transcom Norway, we like to think of our business culture like “the way we do things around here”. The idea behind this project is to eliminate the parts of our business culture that does not work, and at the same time continue to strengthen and make the good business culture more visible. All leaders and the whole administration are included in this project. We are divided into different groups, all working on different parts of the business culture. Examples of themes that we are working on are;

  • Communication
  • Rituals
  • Leadership training
  • Recognition of new employees
  • Leaders as good role models

One of the things that are well rooted in our culture is our monthly happenings. These can be everything from a great Halloween party to serving ice cream to the agents. The most important thing about these happenings is that leaders and administration do something for the agents. We believe that this will help reducing the gorge between leaders/admin and agents and give the agents a boost of well-being and everyday-comfort. All of  this brings us a great business culture that increases ownership, customer satisfactory and revenue.

The importance of motivated teams for Transcom Chile

The efficiency and performance of our employees depends in large part on their level of motivation.

That is why the staff at our site in Concepción participates in Motivational Workshops with the aim of generating greater cohesion among our teams. The departments of Operations, BST, Information Technology, Purchasing, Sales and Human Resources were represented during these interesting, instructive and fun days of motivation.

24 employees participated in the first session, held at the Sonesta Hotel. The main purpose of the workshop was to emphasize teamwork and to create trust amongst participants.

The following session took place in The Triplets Vacation Center in the Region of Bio Bio. Here, our employees worked in teams, covering various areas of development in the organization, such as effective communication, assertiveness, perception and leadership. The lakes, mountains and natural beauty around the Center The Triplets contributed to the positive atmosphere.

We will continue with our Motivational workshops as we are confident that they will help in creating a better working environment for our employees and thereby also benefit our clients and their customers.

Making a career at Transcom

As mentioned in earlier posts, Transcom is one of the largest employers in Karlskoga, Sweden and often one of the first work experiences for many young adults there. It’s a nervous and, at the same time, anticipative feeling when you swipe your keycard at the front door, go through the hallway and enter the site. And then your journey at Transcom can take any direction, depending on what you want and what you contribute to the company and its clients.

A perfect example is my colleague Linda Jansson. She started as a retail support agent for one of our clients, a major telco in Sweden. Later on, she advanced to become head of quality assurance for the sound files recorded by our client’s telemarketing salespeople. Noticing her teaching skills, our business manager soon appointed her as trainer, both for our new employees and our regular agents, on how we give the best support to our client’s retailers. Now, what could possibly be the next step for Linda in her aspiring career at Transcom? That would probably be when the Swedish management team voted for her as one of Transcom’s value ambassadors.
